We spoke to Arshi Ayub Mohamed Zaveri, Senior Advisor to the Royal Family Office, UAE, on what the keys aspects are when she hires people on her team. Her answer has a lot to do with who you are, not what you’ve done in your career.
Arshi Ayub Mohamed Zaveri: When it comes to personally seeking somebody that you want to work with outside or within your organisation, like-minded individuals who have a strong work ethic are very important. I often say that your character is your brand. So, if you are able to create a strong character that is built on proper ethics, work ethics, and business ethics, it is extremely important. I can’t work with people who don’t have that character and those values.
70% of your work is actually communication. Only 30% is left up to technical expertise and so on. So, we really look for individuals who are strong on communication, who share similar passions, who share a very strong business ethic, and who are able to really understand that and accept that there is nothing we cannot accomplish if we put our minds to it. There is literally nothing. It is perfectly ok if you don’t strike a deal today. It might happen tomorrow. You have to hang in there, and take chances.
Give people chances, give them room to breathe. So, these are some core principles that I look for in individuals when it comes to hiring, or having somebody that you can trust. But it comes with time. Even after hiring, to be able to trust them and entrust them with certain responsibilities that are core to you comes with time. Trust isn’t built in a day; it takes time to build basic trust. So, alongside building trust, I am looking for similar, like-minded characteristics when I want to hire and work with somebody.
